A Swindon-based entrepreneur has launched a wellbeing subscription box business aimed at supporting neurodiverse children and their families—thanks to a £7,000 Start Up Loan delivered by GC Business Finance.

Kayleigh Timms, who lives with autism and ADHD herself, was inspired to create the boxes through her experiences as both a neurodiverse individual and a parent. Her new business will offer monthly ‘adventure boxes’ designed for children aged 4–8, each packed with tools and resources to help ease anxiety and support positive experiences around day-to-day activities.

The first box, themed around a beach trip, launched this month and builds on the story in her debut children’s book The Adventures of Lady Mouse and Wolfy – Beach Day Bother, which features two neurodiverse main characters.

Kayleigh explained: “I was working full-time in IT and felt I wasn’t spending enough time with my children. After writing the book, I saw how helpful it was for children to see characters like them—so the subscription box was a natural next step. I wanted to create something that would help families like mine feel more prepared and supported.”

Each themed box includes a mix of sensory tools, visual aids and playful resources, such as chewable necklaces, fidget keyrings, SEN Talk Tags, and a Hidden Disabilities sunflower lanyard. They also feature empowering activity booklets that include autism facts, routines, checklists, and space to personalise outings—helping reduce anxiety and build confidence in unfamiliar situations.

Future themes will include topics like travel, forest exploration, rainy days and gardening, with plans for personalisation options for each box.

Reflecting on her own journey, Kayleigh shared how recognising neurodivergent behaviours in one of her sons led her to pursue a formal ADHD diagnosis later in life.

“Understanding more about myself helped me become a better parent. The boxes are part of that knowledge-sharing—some parents might feel unsure, and this gives them a starting point to better understand their child’s needs.”

Kayleigh discovered the British Business Bank’s Start Up Loans programme through a simple online search and was supported by GC Business Finance throughout her application.

“I applied before I could overthink it,” she said. “I’d never run a business before and the idea of having a mentor really appealed to me. It’s made me feel less alone and more capable.”

Alex Mearns, Head of Start Up Lending at GC Business Finance, said: “Kayleigh’s business is a brilliant example of how personal experiences can lead to innovative, purpose-driven solutions. We’re proud to have supported her through the Start Up Loans programme and look forward to seeing her business grow and support families across the UK.”
