Manchester-based creative organisation QuAC (Queer Art Community) was founded by Marcus Stones to create opportunities for artists, performers and creatives from underrepresented backgrounds. Having built a growing network through events and creative projects, Marcus identified the need for an affordable, accessible physical space where creatives could collaborate, develop their work and connect with wider audiences.

The Solution
QuAC opened a dedicated creative workspace after securing more than £10,000 in Start Up Loans funding through GC Business Finance (GCBF). The new workspace was designed to support a wide range of creative disciplines, offering flexible facilities including podcast recording booths, space for aerial performers, craft workshops and adaptable event areas.
The Process
The Start Up Loans funding from GCBF enabled Marcus to secure and develop the premises, officially launch the workspace, invest in marketing and access mentoring support during a key stage of growth. By working with Emma, Marcus was supported through the Start Up Loans programme to create an accessible hub that gives artists and performers the space and opportunities they need to develop their talents and reach new audiences.
The Result
The space is already welcoming teachers, tutors and creatives ahead of its official launch event. In addition to providing workspaces, QuAC plans to host regular exhibitions, performances and community events, creating opportunities for artists and performers to showcase their work while encouraging new talent to get involved.

The funding has enabled us to create a permanent home for QuAC and provide opportunities for creatives who may not always have access to traditional spaces.
